"If it should fall into the wrong hands..." a cliché! but one we are all familiar with. used when there is a piece of technology, an idea, or an object that is so important that if the wrong people should be able to get it... well cancel all your plans! your going to need new ones!

But that is exactly what Happened. Oronegro's civil war had some unseen effects on the rest of the world. Before the War Russia/The Soviet Union did not have tanks of the same quality as the West. They lacked the technology and the knowledge behind it. But the rebels had taken over the factories where some of these western tanks were made, they had the plans, the materials and even worse they all knew themselves how to put it all together.

So when the Soviet Union's armies aided the Rebel cause Russian tanks went to these factories to get repaired. at first the rebels just patched the holes and sent them on their way but then one group decided that repairs were not good enough! When the Russians sent in one of their tanks (exact date unknown) in 2023 for repairs they were concerned when they did not get it back within a few weeks. But then suddenly 3 months later a tank was apparently ready to pick up. Curious the Russians went en-mass, the whole thing turned from a normal pick up into a ceremony! out of the factory doors to the astonishment of the Russians who were there rolled a blue, quiet T-90 Tank. It may have been a let down if another tank from across the square had not shot the blue beast. The blast was huge! many of the Russians ducked for cover. but as the dust and smoke cleared the Blue tank carried on rolling, its armour dented but not broken, the other tanks crew promptly got out, asked the Russians to stand well back and Boom! the Blue tank made the other disappear! this was caught on camera by a drone but at first it appeared to be nothing. Only later was its significance known.

The tank was soon just one of many! blue T-90's and other Russian AFV's were rolling off the production line! their armour was strong, their guns accurate, they were a match for the western tanks that had seemed so superior just months before! the Oronegrean government panicked! then the Pentagon! Until all of the western world was in fear! Russia must not be able to produce these! the USA committed some its best special forces, teams of US Navy Seals to destroy the factory, assassinate anyone who held knowledge on how to produce these tanks and recover any plans of these tanks they could, the rest they would destroy!

Seal Teams were joined by Oronegro's own Black Angels they were about to carry out their mission when some news reached them that made them change all their plans. it had fallen into the wrong hands!!! Spetnaz operators had sneaked out plans as well as some vehicles on an advanced Oronegrean submarine, which they had captured. How they had done this unnoticed was a shock, how they got hold of one of Oronegro's best warships was another! How did they get the vehicles in? how did they not get detected?

But it was irrelevant now! The mission was a failure, even before it was started. But Now Russia was ready, tanks of her own equal to that of her foes! Now all Russia needed to do was what Russia did best... make hundreds of them!

Some of the things you read on the internet can get very strange. Apparently word got out - evoked, it would appear, by the idiosyncratic choice of blue with which to paint the AFVs - that the secret to the T90's robustness against incoming lay indeed within its azure coating. An article appeared in Puffington Post in which a certain 'Colonel Zorro' revealed the secret in an exclusive, hour-long interview. Backed by any hard surface, it was implied, this blue paint not only took the kinetic sting out of high velocity ballistic missiles, it also reacted rapidly with high explosive in an endogenous implosive chemical reaction to produce a harmless sludge at the point of impact.
ReplyDeleteOf course, a second hit in exactly the same spot would not be so easily rebuffed. So the story went, which gave some credibility to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative. Even so, the ability to survive a 'first shot' increased markedly the vehicle's longevity in the field, and improved crew morale to the point of euphoria.
Of course the story was bogus - not that that stopped intelligence agencies globally to advise their governments of the peril, the need to match such technology , and the subsequent billions spent by those governments upon a project that any schoolboy could have told them was sheer and utter folly. The secret to the power behind the blue T90 (popularly known as the T90-Gold) lay elsewhere, in the metallurgy of the tank's armour...

cool story Ion.... that article in the Puffington Post was very amusing. And as a person with exclusive insight into the armouries of Oronegro I can confirm (this is for your eyes only) that it is down to the metalurgy of the armour... However it must be known that the armour is not soley made for metal. (by this I mean other than varous steels, titanium, depleted uranium, etc.) and there is some use of ceramic and synthetic composite materials in certain parts of the armour as well as some other things, a few extremely 'exotic' and 'out there'. exact details are naturally calssified! This is true for Oronegrean tanks and as the Russian ones are based purely off Oronegrean plans for the armour it is almost certain that they are the same.
Deleteit reminds me about the assination attempt on Hitler's moustache, this is a true story. Apparently the predececor to the CIA (I forgot their name I am afraid) was convinced that it was because of Hitlers oratory ability and public respect that he held onto power. Their plan was to remove this element and as such to end the war. They were convinced by their own scientists that Hitler had shown "Femenine tendencies" and this made him weak to an attack based on giving him hormones. The plan was simple give him female hormones and as a result (according, once more, to their scientists) his voice would become squeekier, he would become ridiculously emotional and his moustache would fall off!
Naturally the real scientific world and any one with common sence knew this plan was completly stupid and would never work. But they pressed ahead anyway! in the end they bribed (with even more tax payers money) the farmer next to Hitlers retreate in Bavaria (who supplied the food) to pour the liquid hormones onto his crops thus getting the hormones into Hitlers food! However once the agents were gone the farmer simple told the unknowing target of the attack what had happened, naturally he recieved an award and that was that.
ultimately the only person who gained anything from the mission was the farmer.
Anyway I do like this story... and you can see why I might have been reminded of it by the news item in Puffington Post.
